1-5 Grade Music Letter G for Guitar Lesson by Mrs. Carol Louise Moore

Before we learn about the letter "G" in music,
let us review the Music Joke for this week.

In American Sign Language,
the letter "G" looks like this.

Show me the letter "G" on one hand

A music instrument that
starts with the
letter "G" is a:
 GUITAR
There are 2 main types of guitars:
Acoustic GUITAR and an Electric GUITAR
This picture is your typical looking
Acoustic GUITAR.

I found this 18 year old boy
playing the GUITAR
for Kids Got Talent.
So, I just had to share.

HERE IS A VIDEO OF A GIRL
PLAYING AN ACOUSITIC GUITAR

THE NEXT VIDEO IS OF A
9 YEAR OLD BOY
PLAYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR

Can you see the difference
between an Acoustic GUITAR
and an Electric GUITAR?

Another music instrument that
starts with the
letter "G" is a:
 GONG
Watch this next video
to learn about the GONG instrument:

Let's now listen to a bigger sized GONG:

Remember there are only 7 letters in the Music Alphabet,
and those letters are:
A, B, C, D, E, F, G
There are no letters after G.
In other words, there is no H, I, J, K, L, M...and so on.

Now hold up one hand

The number of lines in music is
how many fingers you have on one hand.
Count the fingers on one hand.
How many fingers did you count?

The number of spaces in music is
how many spaces there are in between the fingers.
Now count the spaces between your fingers.
How many spaces are in between the fingers?
So...
How many lines are there in music?
How many spaces are there in music?

Did you know that the lines and spaces
you see in music are called the "STAFF"?

What is the name of the music symbol below?
Treble Clef

Treble Clef notes are your high sounding notes.
The note below on the "STAFF" after the Treble Clef
 is the letter "G"

The note "G" lands on a line and would be called a

line note.

Now to help you to remember
the Treble Clef letter names
to the notes that land on a line,
Think...
Every Good Boy Does Fine

for Every is on the bottom 1st line
for Good is on the 2nd line
for Boy is on the 3rd line
for Does is on the 4th line
F for Fine is on the 5th line
What line is the letter "G" on?

Below on the Staff, after the Treble Clef
is the SHARP major scale "OCTAVE"
because it starts on the letter "G"
and ends on the letter "G"

In the G Major scale,
there is only 1 SHARP:
F SHARP
Do you remember what
this music symbol is?
Whenever you see a SHARP in music
you will go up one step, Free Up Arrow Cliparts, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art on ...
or
you will play the very next note going up.

FLAT  is a music symbol and
it looks like this.

Whenever you see a FLAT in music
you will go down one step,
or
you will play the very next note going down.

What is the difference between a
SHARP and a FLAT?
