LESSON 1

TODAY WE WILL BE

LEARNING ABOUT THE

INSTRUMENTS IN THE

ORCHESTRA

(9 MINUTE VIDEO)

THE ORCHESTRA INSTRUMENTS
ARE DIVIDED INTO
4 INSTRUMENT FAMILIES

NOW LET'S LEARN ABOUT
THE 4 INSTRUMENT FAMILIES

(8 MINUTE VIDEO)

NEXT IS AN INTERACTIVE VIDEO TO HELP LEARN THE
INSTRUMENTS OF THE ORCHESTRA

LESSON

LET'S  LEARN MORE ABOUT THE

WOODWIND FAMILY

(6:24 MINUTE VIDEO)

THE WOODWINDS ARE 1 OF THE

4 MUSIC INSTRUMENT FAMILIES

https://www.classicsforkids.com/music/instruments_orchestra.php
SINCE WE JUST REVIEWED
THE WOODWIND INSTRUMENTS
I BROUGHT MY FLUTE
TO SHOW YOU
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
(HOPEFULLY I REMEMBERED TO BRING IT)
HERE IS A VIDEO I DID OF ME
PLAYING THE FLUTE
TO THE PINK PANTHER

NOW

WE ARE GOING TO WATCH

A FUN CARTOON

WHERE EACH CHARACTER

HAS A DIFFERENT

INSTRUMENT SOUND

THAT WHEN YOU HEAR THAT SOUND

YOU KNOW IT IS THAT CHARACTER

PRESENTING...
PETER AND THE WOLF (15 MINUTE VIDEO)

If there is any time left in class
let's practice clapping to
MISS MARY MACK
DOUBLE DOUBLE
AND
TIC TAC TOE

LESSON 3

IN THE LAST LESSON
WE LEARNED ABOUT THE
 FLUTE
WHAT INSTRUMENT FAMILY
DOES THE FLUTE BELONG TO?

WE ALSO LEARNED TO  HAVE A
MILLION DREAMS OF
THINGS THAT MAKE US HAPPY
AND MAKE OTHERS HAPPY
GO AHEAD AND SING ALONG TO
A MILLION DREAMS,
WHILE MY DAUGHTER
SARAH LOUISE MOORE
SINGS AND PLAYS THE
UKULELE

THE SONG "A MILLION DREAMS"
CAME FROM THE MOVIE
"THE GREATES SHOWMAN"

TODAY WE ARE GOING TO BE
LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE
PERCUSSION FAMILY INSTRUMENTS
BUT FIRST, BEFORE WE DO...
WE ARE GOING TO
PRACTICE SOME BODY PERCUSSION
BY PLAYING SOME RHYTHM
WITH OUR BODIES
INSTEAD OF USING REAL
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS.
THE SONG WE WILL BE PRACTICING
CAME FROM THE MOVIE
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN.
WHERE "A MILLION DREAMS" CAME FROM

TIME TO LEARN ABOUT THE...
PERCUSSION FAMILY
(8 MINUTE VIDEO)

LESSON 4

BEFORE WE REVIEW
MORE INSTRUMENTS:

THINK ABOUT WHAT INSTRUMENT
YOU LIKE OR WOULD LIKE
TO KNOW MORE ABOUT

(10 MINUTE VIDEO)

OKAY,
LET'S REVIEW SOME OF THE
ORCHESTRA SOUNDS AGAIN
FROM THE 4 INSTRUMENT FAMILIES
(2:43 MINUTE VIDEO)

If there is time left in class
let's practice clapping to
MISS MARY MACK
DOUBLE DOUBLE
AND
TIC TAC TOE

ALOT OF PEOPLE,
WHEN THEY HEAR PERCUSSION,
THINK OF THE DRUMS

The next video is of some young men playing on some
bucket DRUMS.
Yes, a bucket DRUM is just using a

bucket like a DRUM.

In order to be able to play the drums,
we need to practice.
Let us now practice on our laps,
if a bucket is not available,
To the "We Will Rock You" song

Now let us see if you can practice the rhythm
of hitting the beat on a DRUM, bucket, or lap.
But, before we practice the rhythm,
can you tell me what RHYTHM means?
RHYTHM means:
a strong repeated pattern of sound
or movement.
Just like the sound of playing drums.
Okay, now let us practice RHYTHM
playing some different kinds of RHYTHM.

Now, let us have fun learning how to play the snare drum.
Below is a video on
how to play the snare DRUM

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

WEEK 3
LESSON 1
BECAUSE WE ARE IN JANUARY,
AND IT GETS REALLY COLD
SOMETIMES WE HAVE SNOW
SO, JUST FOR FUN....
LET'S DO A FUN LESSON
ABOUT SNOW
(REVIEW PERCUSSION FAMILY BEFORE LEARNING ABOUT THE BRASS FAMILY)
(4 MINUTE VIDEO)

LESSON 5
BRASS FAMILY (18 MINUTE VIDEO)

(9 MINUTE VIDEO)

SOooo...
WHAT INSTRUMENT
DO YOU LIKE OR WOULD LIKE
TO KNOW MORE ABOUT?

LET'S START OFF TODAY'S LESSON
BY WATCHING A VIDEO
ABOUT "TUBBY THE TUBA"
IN THE STORY YOU WILL SEE
A VARIETY OF INSTRUMENTS
AND NOT JUST THE TUBA.

SO, WHAT FAMILY DOES THE
TUBA BELONG TO? (9 MINUTE VIDEO)

AT THIS POINT,
I THINK IT WOULD BE FUN
TO WATCH...
THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE
WITH MICKEY MOUSE
FROM THE MOVIE
FANTASIA
AND LISTEN TO THE INSTRUMENTS
BEING PLAYED IN THE MOVIE
(5 MINUTE VIDEO)

IMAGINE WATCHING THIS
WITHOUT MUSIC.

ANOTHER WAY OF IMAGINING,
IS WHEN WE DREAM
ABOUT THINGS THAT WE
WOULD LIKE TO DO OR HAVE.
WHY, WE COULD EVEN HAVE...
A MILLION DREAMS

IF TIME ALLOWS,
WE CAN SING
A MILLION DREAMS
BY MY DAUGHTER,
SARAH LOUISE MOORE
WHILE SHE PLAYS THE UKULELE

NICE JOB,

NEXT WEEK WE ARE
GOING TO FOCUS ON
LEARNING TO
PLAY THE DRUMS,
BY LEARNING TO PLAY ON A BUCKET

With the time left in class
let's practice clapping to
MISS MARY MACK
DOUBLE DOUBLE
AND
TIC TAC TOE

OUR PATRIOTIC SONGS

We will first start off our program by singing
our national anthem
"The Star Spangled Banner"
IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND
THE IMPORTANCE OF SINGING THIS SONG
WE ARE GOING TO WATCH A VIDEO
ON THE HISTORY OF OUR
NATIONAL ANTHEM OF....
THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER

GO AHEAD AND STAND UP
TO SHOW RESPECT FOR OUR FLAG
AND THE MEN AND WOMEN
WHO HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED
TO PROTECT THE COUNTRY
WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED
TO LIVE IN
AND TO HELP KEEP US SAFE
AND FREE
WE ARE NOW GOING TO SING
OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM

BELOW IS A HANDOUT I CREATED
TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN THE SONG.

The sign language for "FREE" is
crossing the wrists out in front of you,
like someone tied your wrists together with rope
in front of you and is holding you captive;

then you break the ropes by breaking free and
now you are brave by
holding bent arms out to side like in the picture.

This is like how we are learning
"free" and "brave" with the
"You're a Grand Ole' Flag" song.
I would like to do a sign language video of
"You're a Grand Ole Flag" and post on YouTube
for the kids to practice at home.

NEXT PATRIOTIC SONG
WE ARE GOING TO LEARN
IS THE SONG
YANKEE DOODLE
BUT, FIRST
WE ARE GOING TO LEARN ABOUT
THE HISTORY OF THIS
WELL LOVED PATRIOTIC SONG

NOW THAT WE HAVE LEARNED
THE HISTORY OF
YANKEE DOODLE
LET'S TRY SINGING THE
YANKEE DOODLE SONG

 RAISE YOUR HAND
IF YOU WOULD LIKE
TO LEARN TO PLAY THE DRUMS
TO THIS SONG CALLED
YANKEE DOODLE

BEFORE WE LEARN TO
PLAY THE DRUMS
WE ARE GOING TO
LEARN ABOUT DRUMS
NOW TRY PRACTICING PLAYING
THE DRUMS WITH ME IN THE VIDEO
TO THE BEAT.

ANOTHER PATRIOTIC SONG
WE WILL BE SINGING
IS ABOUT
OLD ABE LINCOLN

Sincerely,
 Mrs. Carol Louise Moore
